Our Christmas Play

On Thursday December 14th Ms. Gorby’s and Ms Lynch’s class went to the stage to do their Christmas Play for the parents.
First the class changed into their costumes in the classroom and then had their faces painted.
Next they sang the songs and said their lines to different characters on the stage.
Lastly the children got sweets and changed out of their costumes.

The children were happy , excited and tired after their play.

Our Science Experiment on Light

Last week Ms. Lynch’s class wanted to see if things were transparent or opaque in our classroom.
First we traced a sun on the tissue paper. We found out that tissue is good for tracing because it is transparent.
Next we traced a sun on the paper. We found out that the paper isn’t transparent.
Then we traced the sun on tinfoil. Tin foil is bad for tracing because it is not transparent.

Lastly we used greaseproof for tracing the sun. We found out that greaseproof is good for tracing because it is transparent.

The Maths Trail

Last week Ms. Lynch’s class went to the yard to do Maths outside.
First they went to the senior infant yard. We held hands to see how many people it took to fill the mural.
Next we took steps to see how long the basketball court was.

Lastly we wrote numbers of the cars and the colours of the cars.
We enjoyed the maths trail.

First Class Pasta Frames

We were busy on Friday attaching pasta to our page before spraying them with sliver glitter. Our names are inscribed on the inside. We will hang them up outside our classroom this week.

Thursday's Terrific Theatre

Our class really enjoyed the puppet show this week. There were plenty of jokes but our favourite one was about Ms. Leonard. We liked the big bad wolf the best.

Walk for water

Today we took part in a walk for water. All of the boys and girls took turns carrying a basket of water bottles around the yard. They were heavy and it was tiring but it reminds us all of the people in the world who have to do this every day. We learned how some people do a 6km walk twice a day. We are very lucky to have access to water in Ireland.

Let's go fly a kite!

Today we finished our last stem challenge, to make a kite. We decorated them with our own designs. Our teacher made the frames and helped us to assemble them. It wasnt as windy as we would have liked but we had lots of fun anyway!!

Procedural writing

Want to know how to make your own bucket towers? The boys and girls wrote their own procedures today and included a helpful diagram too! Here is an example of their work..

The reviews are in....

Today we finished our class novel 'James and the Giant Peach'. We wrote book reviews on it and picked our favourite part. But there were so many to choose from. Why not ask us about them?

Happy Mothers Day!!

We celebrate mothers day on Sunday. We are thankful for our mums (and dads) for everything they do for us. Today we made flowers and cards for our mums, grandmothers or godmothers. It was lots of fun!

Bucket towers continued...

Here we see some of the children during the design process. They came across some problems during their work and discussed ways to fix the problem. Didn't they do well!!!

Bucket towers

Today we  made bucket towers using straws, tape, string and plastic cups. We LOVE being engineers in our class. We did ALL of this without any help from teacher. We are getting really good at engineering!!

Engineering pics..

More photos of engineers hard at work...

Engineering bridges

Check out our very first attempt at engineering. We made beam bridges using lollipop sticks and tape. We all had the exact same resources and could not get any more. We are practicing for being real engineers when we will have to stick to a budget to buy our materials. Here are some pictures of our work.

Engineers week...towers!

We used spaghetti and tape to make our towers. Our teacher said they had to be free standing. We looked at the very famous Eiffel tower for inspiration. Take a look at the winning team! We are learning about the use of triangles in engineering and we learned how triangles are a strong shape!

Engineers week

We celebrated engineers week in Room 9 last week. It was really fun but it's hard getting an idea from your head and creating it with your hands. We made bridges, towers and boats. Here is our winning boat. Teacher said it had to float and must also hold weight!
